Lisa Kozin

Obituary of Lisa Jennifer Kozin

Lisa Jennifer Kozin flew high to heaven on Friday, October 7, 2022, leaving her treasured wife Brooke Emily Alverson-Kozin with fluffy companion Cozette "Cozy", loving mother Patricia Ann Ryan and her only favorite sister, Dawn Elizabeth Kozin (fiancé Joseph H. Smith Jr.).

Proudly born in Detroit, Michigan, Lisa attended Our Lady Queen of Angels and St. Andrew High School.   The “girl next door” was unique and special from the start.  Lisa loved playing baseball and basketball all through school.  She always rallied the neighborhood for a good game.   Lisa had a deep love for music and was gifted at playing the piano.  Anytime she would play, the entire neighborhood could hear her.  They would then come into the house or stay outside and listen to the beautiful music that she played.   Another favorite hobby was to go fishing.

She found her niche as a Transportation Driver for seniors. She started her career at Independence Village of Waterstone in Oxford, Michigan in 2002.  There were multiple employees with the same name, so she was given the nickname, “Captain Lisa”.  Anytime the Captain was ready to drive, she would thoroughly inspect the bus and make sure every resident got on safely. Lisa took time with her residents, sharing conversations, learning about them and from them.  In 2014 Captain Lisa relocated to Sarasota, Florida and drove for Bay Village where she continued her love of driving seniors.  Lisa always went above and beyond to make sure her residents were taken care of and received everything they needed.

In March of 2021 Lisa was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Over the last 19 months Lisa fought hard, always rallied back until she couldn't. During her battle she constantly worried about her family as she was always concerned about them instead of herself.  Lisa’s heart was loyal, genuine, filled with deep love and appreciation for everyone that she met.

Lisa will be deeply missed by her uncle Joseph Ryan, her godsons, Michigan and California cousins, her tribe of amazing friends, and all the seniors she loved.
