Obituary of Susan Ellen Polhemus

Susan Polhemus, 76, died peacefully at her home in North Port, FL on November 24, 2023.

Susan was a personal trainer for seniors, Middle Eastern Dancer, and Artistic Director of Albany, N.Y.-based Yallah Dance Ensemble, which sold out the New York State Performing Arts Center (The “Egg”) in 1983.

Born in Brooklyn, Susan lived most of her life in Albany, moving to Sarasota, FL, in 1995. She kept her Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) personal trainer certification active throughout her life.

Susan worked for the New York State Office for the Aging for 15 years and for the Albany, N.Y., and Potter Park, Sarasota, YMCA’s for over 30 years. She was Activities Director at several local senior living communities.

She is survived by her husband Craig, sons Jonathan and Scott, her mother Lenore Bumstead, her sister Helene Sovern, and her ex-husband Pete Schultz.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at 2PM at her home.
