Obituary of Dorothy Louise Kimmerlin

DOROTHY (DOTTIE) L. KIMMERLIN (KOENIG)       

We have lost the most wonderful, compassionate, caring, loving, generous mother, grandmother, great grandmother, teacher and friend we could ever had wished for.  We celebrated her 100^th Birthday in October.  She answered God’s call Thursday December 7^th 2023 and left this world to be with family and friends in heaven.

Dottie was born in East Landsdowne, PA., the daughter of Forrest and Mary Brown. She graduated from Drexel University in 1945, was president of the women’s student government, an officer in her sorority and is listed in “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.” She married Fred Koenig in 1945 and had four children, Rick, Mark, Lynne and Bruce Koenig.  In 1956, Dottie’s family moved from Plainfield NJ to Venice and had their home built in Golden Beach, a home they still have today.

Dottie was heavily involved in so many activities and organizations.  She helped Fred run his Construction Supply business, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was President of the Women’s Club, was in a singing group called the Coquettes and performed in Venice Little Theatre. Dottie became a much loved and admired teacher at Venice Junior High School and she also was the faculty advisor of the cheerleaders. 

In 1974, Dottie met and married her second husband, Wayne Kimmerlin and became a mother to two adult children, Wayne Jr. and Candace Hart. She and Wayne were members of the Venice Yacht Club and Lake Venice Golf Club.  Dottie loved to golf and won the women’s golf championship at the Lake Venice Golf Club in 1991. She and Wayne also loved to fish, go boating, and play tennis. 

Most important was Dottie’s faith and her church - the Venice Nokomis Presbyterian Church. She was a special part of the church for nearly all of the years of the church's history as well as her own lifetime. She started attending the “drive in church” as it was known then in 1956. For a time, she was church secretary.  Dottie was involved in numerous activities including co-working on compiling the archives of the history of the church, as well as forming or serving on several committees including Interlink, Two Cents a Meal, Care and Share, Friendship and Out Reach along with also being a session member.

Dottie is preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her step-son Wayne Jr, daughter Lynne, and granddaughter Kelly-Lynne. She is survived by her three sons and their wives June, Jeanie and Suzi, her step-daughter Candace, grandchildren, Kaija, Erik, Seth, Ashley and Michael and great granddaughter Ellis.

Mother, Nana, Dottie, Mrs. Koenig, we miss you, will never forget you, and know that you are now, as always, at peace with God.

Viewing services will be private.  A celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2024 at the VPC.  Details will be forthcoming communicated through VPC and social media.
