Obituary of Roy Lee Nichols

Roy Lee Nichols, 77, passed away on December 5, 2023, in Sarasota, FL. He was born on November 30, 1946, in Knoxville, TN to Fred Everett and Alma Jean (Jollay). He graduated from Fulton High School in 1964 and The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1969. Roy married his wife Joan Hingsbergen in 1972. He worked in sales until retirement. Roy and Joan relocated to North Port, FL in 2015.

He enjoyed golfing and swimming.  He was very involved in The Knights of Columbus, in which he served in several positions as District Deputy, State Chairman for Family Activities, as well as Grand Knight in both Tennessee and California. In Florida, he served as a 4th Degree Knight at San Pedro's Catholic Church in North Port, FL as Treasurer and Trustee.

Roy will be remembered as one of a kind. He had a soft spoken demeanor, a great sense of humor,and a large, giving, and generous  heart. He had deep Faith and most of all, an undying love for his Wife and Family. He was so proud of his Tennessee roots and of course his UT Vols. His friends constantly heard “Rocky Top” way to many times!

He is predeceased by his Father and Mother, Fred Everett, and Alma Jean Nichols, Brothers Fred, Jr. and Douglas Nichols, and his Aunt, Myrtle Lowe.

He is survived by his wife Joan Nichols, Sons Kris and Joe Nichols, Granddaughters Olivia and Madeline Nichols, Nieces, Laurie and Susan Nichols, and Allison Chambers, Sister and Brother- in law, Jean and Tom Brown, Nephews, Kevin and Dan Brown, Mark, Eric, and Adam Kilbride and Niece Erin Kilbride-Vincent.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 3PM-5PM at Farley Funeral Home, 5900 S Biscayne Dr, North Port, FL 34287. A funeral mass will be held at 10AM on December 28, 2023, in the Chapel at San Pedro Catholic Church, 14380 Tamiami Trail, North Port, FL 34287 with an interment to follow in the San Pedro Memorial Gardens.
