Obituary of Thomas Francis Murphy

Thomas Francis “Murph” Murphy of Venice, FL, called back to the Lord on February 2, 2024 at the age of 88. Survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy Murphy and sons Thomas Murphy, Jr (Alison) of Wesley Chapel and Robert Murphy (Sandra) of Fairport, NY, grandchildren Jack, Emily, Ryan and David. Predeceased by son, Mark K Murphy (Atlanta, GA 2017) and grandson Tommy Murphy (Penfield, NY 2016).

Murph served three community colleges as VP Administrative Affairs where he worked tirelessly to ensure that funding for education was acquired and distributed appropriately to enable affordable college experience for students in Steuben, Chemung, Cortland, Tompkins and Monroe counties in NYS. Murph also created Compass Consulting, aiding financial officers of community colleges nationwide with experience and networking through both CCBOA (Community College Business Officers Association) and NACUBO (National Association of College and University Business Officers). He served as CCBOA president, chairman of many NACUBO committees, and on Middle States College Accreditation Teams.

Murph was very fond of the Finger Lakes in NY – spending much time at his home on Owasco Lake. Moved to Venice, FL in 1995 where he enjoyed walking to Epiphany Cathedral for daily mass. Never one to miss a TGIF, he single handedly kept Bud draft taps open at his favorite spots.
