Daniel Olmstead

Obituary of Daniel D. Olmstead

Daniel D. Olmstead, age 65, died unexpectedly on February 6th, 2024 in Florida. He was born on June 14, 1958.

Dan (affectionately known as “Pipi”, “Boone” or “Hammer”) was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many. Dan graduated from East Lansing High School where he was a standout in baseball and hockey. He attended Ferris State where he lettered in hockey. Softball and golf became his sports passions after college. Anyone who knew Dan, knew he bled “Green” and had two favorite sports teams; MSU and anyone who played Michigan! The competitive spirit between him and his brother “Doc” never wavered; yet “Doc” will forever be his idol and “best friend”.

Dan retired after 25 years with the Michigan Department of Corrections, specifically the G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility (Jackson, MI). During his tenure, he earned the honor of being Officer of the Year at the facility level.

Surviving Dan is his wife Cindy, daughter Tori (Wayne), granddaughters Brianna and Lauren, brother Dennis “Doc” (Diane); sister-in-law Candy Hable (Darin); brother-in-law Myrle Kelley, nieces Angie, Amanda (Jerrod) and nephew Michael (Lyndsay), great nieces Reese, Amara and great nephew Hudson, his beloved Aunt Mary Lou and Uncle Ed Aguzzi, close cousins Jeff (Karla) and Kenny, many more cousins, nieces and nephews, and honorary nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father George and mother Doris. FAMILY was everything to Dan, as was his many special and dearest FRIENDS.

The memories we hold dear of how generous, kind and special a man he was is his gift to all of us. Dan will forever remain in our hearts.

Dan’s wishes were to be cremated, have a Celebration of Life, and one last event at the “Farm”. Further details to be announced.
